Farmers and agriculture are India’s economic backbone. And, to strengthen the country financially, our farmers must have all the facilities needed to improve their living standards and be happy. The Government of India has been planning to empower our farmers for quite some time. And this bank has already taken up that objective.
Bank of Baroda (BoB) will celebrate Baroda Kisan Pakhwada from October 1 to October 15 at all its branches across the country to augment the Centre’s efforts to enhance the flow of advances in the agricultural sector and double farmers’ incomes.
Baroda Kisan Pakhwada had reaped huge successes last year. Over 240,817 farmers benefited from various activities conducted by different branches of the bank, which has decided to continue this unique initiative this year, too. The event will end on October 16 with the Baroda Kisan Divas celebrations, coinciding with World Food Day. Baroda Kisan Divas celebrates the spirit and vigour of our farmers and aims at promoting increase in advances in the rural and agricultural sectors.

Baroda Kisan Pakhwada is celebrated at all BoB branches with much cheer and energy. This initiative enables more and more farmers to get connected with the bank’s services. As part of Baroda Kisan Pakhwada, various programmes are organized by the different branches of the bank — such as farmers’ fairs, evening meetings in villages, health camps for farmers, farmers’ conferences, financial literacy camps, farmers’ felicitations and so on. Baroda Kisan Pakhwada and Baroda Kisan Divas aim at increasing credit flows to the rural and agricultural sectors.
Keeping agricultural sector in focus
Expressing his thoughts on this unique initiative, Arvind Lohi, General Manager and Zonal Head, Kolkata, said, “At the Bank of Baroda, we’re doing innovative and pioneering work in agriculture and in the rural areas while maintaining the bank’s heritage. The Government of India has been continuously working hard on new initiatives by paying the greatest of attention to the agricultural sector to secure productivity, interests of farmers, increase their incomes and improve their living standards.
The innovative initiatives by the Bank of Baroda and the Centre’s efforts are in tune with the efforts to empower farmers at every stage, encourage their growth and support the national goal of productivity. The Centre aspires to double the incomes of farmers by 2022 and we endeavour to put in all our efforts to make the government’s initiative a success. It’s also important to spread financial literacy among farmers so that they can be saved from the clutches of moneylenders and approach nationalized banks to fulfil their agro-based needs.”
Bank of Baroda has also published informative books, leaflets and pamphlets to promote this mission, besides a booklet on agro-loan products to assist farmers. These will be instrumental in creating a medium for creating a better future for the agricultural sector and improving agricultural business for farmers.
