Almost everyone is well aware of the horror of waking up to a glaring-red spot. Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, but the least severe. Some skin problems can be embarrassing and some can even be dangerous because the skin is the largest body organ. The effect of skin disorder is not just physical but also psychological in nature.
Five most common skin disorders are- acne, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, skin cancer, and psoriasis.

Acne
Acne occurs when the hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead cells. It is a skin problem that causes blackheads, cysts, pimples, and whiteheads; and appear in mostly on chest, face, neck, shoulder or back. The most common acne is blackheads and whiteheads whereas nodular and cystic acne is the most severe ones as they are formed deep inside the skin which can later cause scars. Heredity factors play a major role in acne. But the main reason for its occurrence in teenagers is due to hormones. The production of hormones really hikes during your teenage and develop acne. This is why acne is most severe among teenagers.
Eczema
Eczema comes from the Greek word “boils-over”. Its symptoms include dry, itchy and red skin caused by inflammation. There are three common forms of eczema:
• Atopic dermatitis is the most commonly seen in children. 1 to 3 percent of adults and 10 to 20 percent of children have this genetic disease, which leads to itchy rashes behind the knees and in the crux of the elbows.

• Allergic contact dermatitis starts to appear in adulthood which is caused by environmental factors like cosmetic agents, metals in jewelry and perfumes.
• Nummular dermatitis appears like red and flaky coin-shaped patches on the skin which occurs due to dry skin. This can be very itchy.
In all these types of eczema, you can moisturize your skin.
Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis causes oily and waxy patches that develop on the scalp. It is different from other types of dermatitis. It affects almost 5 percent of the people in our country. Seborrheic dermatitis can also affect babies usually in the first six months after their birth in the form of “cradle cap”. It is a dandruff-like condition on the scalp. As the symptoms clear up, it has very less chance of coming up again until puberty.
Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in our country. The two forms of skin cancer basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are seen commonly as malignancies in India. Skincare specialist states that in our country there is a less chance of skin cancer but they get the most vulnerable and develop more aggressive forms of the problem. The leading cause of skin cancer is excessive exposure to ultraviolet light.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic and disfiguring condition. It is a collection of excess skin tissue. It usually appears red and thick, covered with silvery scales. It first comes on the elbows and knees but can also grow to other parts of the limbs and even the trunk. Certain types of psoriasis affect certain areas such as hands, scalp or the joints. Even though there are arrays of skin conditions that can occur, treatment options for some which include acne, eczema and dermatitis have improved over the years.
