Kauvery Hospital felicitates Kidney Donors on World Kidney Day

Ever since the first campaign which was held around 12 years back, World Kidney Day is celebrated every year in the form of various awareness campaigns. The ultimate mission of this day is to raise awareness and public concern on importance of kidneys and its impact on overall health.  No doubt, the larger perspective is to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney diseases and associated health diseases. Like every year, this year too, the Kauvery Hospital, Chennai came up with a unique concept to make the occasion fruitful.

Today, the Kauvery Hospital felicitated over 15 donors who had donated their kidneys to save lives of fellow humans. The donors were felicitated with a special memento by Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Executive Director and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon, Kauvery Hospital, in midst of their families and loved ones.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Executive Director and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon, Kauvery Hospital remarked, “It is an absolute honour for us at Kauvery Hospital to felicitate the kidney donors for their kind act. Chronic kidney diseases (CKD) cause at least 2.4 million deaths per year and it is now the 6th fastest growing cause of death in India. We wish to create more awareness on the need for kidney donation and would like to encourage more people to come forward to donate their organs”.

No doubt, the whole initiative undertaken by the Kauvery Hospital authorities is indeed a huge boost toward creating mass awareness on kidney donation. In India, treatment of kidney diseases, along with dialysis, is an expensive process. The effort of the hospital deserves a special praise in this regard.
