Agartala, the land of temples, palaces and rich history of the Manikya kings, is also the second-largest city in northeast India after Guwahati. Now, adding another feather to its cap, Tripura’s capital city has topped the 10 Smart Cities list designated for the North East region. Besides, the national ranking of Agartala has also gone up from 74 to 56.
Responding to this news, a jubilant Tripura Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, said that Agartala Smart City Limited had already taken up 80 Projects with a projected cost of Rs. 1479 Crore for the overall development of the capital city.

The nationl ranking of Agartala among the 100 Smart Cities has also improved to 56 from 74 @ AGT smartcity has taken up 80 projects so far with cost of ₹1479 cr for overall growth of Capital City“, the chief minister tweeted .
While appreciating the efforts of all employees and officials working under Agartala Smart City Limited project for this achievement, the chief minister told the Optimist News, “The state government is working in line with prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision to achieve ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’ goal. Be it connectivity, MSMEs, Agriculture or any other sector, Tripura is now progressing in every field to honor the prime minister’s deep attachment with the people of our state.”
According to the chief minister, after formation of the new government, the state has not only recorded a sharp decline in the overall crime rate including political violence but also witnessed several new initiatives, of which Atal Jaldhara Mission and Ayushman Tripura – are the two key schemes to ensure drinking water facility to all by December 2022 and health insurance cover to around 84000 families respectively.
Meanwhile, the success of Agartala Smart City in speeding up the project sanctioning, tendering and implementation has been appreciated by the Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, during the review of the North Eastern states on July 24, 2020.
