Mompreneurs to host exhibition with everything under the sun for kids only

‘All About Kids’ is a unique exhibition scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 29, at Apparel House (formerly Epicentre), Gurgaon. It has been conceptualized by two mompreneurs, Yogita Taneja Kackar and Ruchiraa Sharma, who also happen to be best friends. The exhibition is a one-of-its-kind shopping event just for kids, with multiple brands under one roof to cater to the needs of little ones, including apparel, accessories, games, services, workshops, birthday parties — et al. Team Optimist spoke to mompreneurs on this coming exhibition…

Team Optimist: How did you come up with the idea of ‘All About Kids’?

Yogita: I’m a shopaholic-mom by nature and an exhibition specialist by profession. I’d always envisioned a retail exhibition exclusively for kids, where everything is available under one roof, where you could touch and feel and experience the joy of shopping for children without the hassle of going from one store to another, dragging your unwilling kids along.

Ruchiraa adds: Being a media professional and having covered fashion and lifestyle extensively for TV, I’ve always followed trends and, after becoming a mom, I felt buying stylish garments and other products and services for kids was a challenge because of a lack of time and limited options. I am to create an online shopping site only for moms and kids, where everything a mom needs for herself and her child is available.

Team Optimist: Shopping for children isn’t an easy task. How does All About Kids handle this?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: Exactly. Touch and feel are very important and that’s why online shopping, although convenient, doesn’t always work for little ones.

Team Optimist: Any specific reason why you’re focusing on digital customers?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: We’re focusing on all customers. A digital site will follow soon, hopefully. For now, we’re focusing on creating a holistic shopping and fun experience for families.

Team Optimist: How do Indian parents feel about buying things for their kids?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: For working parents, spending power is higher, although time is a factor. People don’t want to spend their weekends dragging children from one shop to another. We aim to house everything for kids under one roof and plan an edition every quarter. That’s where we come in. Let the children enjoy and you shop to your heart’s content.

Team Optimist: What sort of products does the platform focus on? Any avenues to showcase specific activities?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: Retail therapy with entertainment, infotainment, art and craft and healthy food are options.

Team Optimist: As a mompreneur, what’s been your experience? What’s your advice to the ones looking for start-ups, especially young women?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do. Your only limitation is your imagination. Women can truly achieve anything they decide to. And the sky’s the limit. As Oprah Winfrey once said, “Think like a queen. A queen isn’t afraid to fail. Failure’s another stepping stone to greatness.”

We were both successful professionals in our respective domains. Then, we switched to working from home for children. So, work never stops. One just learns to adapt and evolve. Now, we want to create something of our own which will make lives easier for other moms, as well.

Team Optimist: What are your plans on All About Kids? Any plans to spread beyond boundaries?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: God willing, we surely want to expand in North India to begin with. We’re looking at 3-4 major cities and an edition every quarter.

Team Optimist: How’s this different from other e-commerce platforms?

Yogita/Ruchiraa: It’s not an e-commerce platform. Yet! It’s a ground event at present and, hopefully, we’ll launch a digital arm in future — something like Amazon for Kids.
