Barack Obama tests Covid positive, PM Modi wishes quick recovery

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday wished a “quick recovery” to former US President Barack Obama, who has tested positive for coronavirus. “My best wishes @BarackObama for your quick recovery from COVID-19, and for your family’s good health and wellbeing,” PM Modi tweeted.

In a late-night tweet, Barack Obama announced that he has been detected with Covid-19. He said that his wife Michelle has tested negative, but has had a ‘scratchy throat’ a few days. However, the world leader mentioned that he feels grateful to have been vaccinated and also have received the booster. Obama also reminded those who have not yet been vaccinated to get the shot.

“I just tested positive for COVID. I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise. Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative. It’s a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down. (sic),” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, the former US President had condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine. Taking to Twitter, Obama wrote, “Russia did so not because Ukraine posed a threat to Russia, but because the people of Ukraine chose a path of sovereignty, self-determination, and democracy.”

Posting his statement on Twitter, Barack Obama wrote, “For exercising rights that should be available to all people and nations, Ukrainians now face a brutal onslaught that is killing innocents and displacing untold numbers of men, women, and children. People of conscience around the world need to loudly and clearly condemn Russia’s actions and offer support for the Ukrainian people. And every American, regardless of party, should support President Biden’s efforts, in coordination with our closest allies, to impose hard-hitting sanctions on Russia—sanctions that impose a real price on Russia’s autocratic elites.”
