Mumbai: The Oscars did it and now the Grammy Awards have done it too. Both the world-renowned award events have missed mentioning the names of the legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri in their ‘In Memoriam’ section. However, both the icons got a mention on Grammys’ website.

The 2022 Grammys’ In Memoriam segment paid tribute to Taylor Hawkins, Stephen Sondheim and Tom Parker. However, there was no mention of Lata or Bappi who passed away in 2022. Now, this has made the fans pretty upset.
“Grammy Awards 2022 missed to pay tribute to #LataMangeshkar, fans pretty miffed #GRAMMYs @RecordingAcad #GrammyAwards,” an user wrote.
“so just realising that the grammys didn’t even bother to pay tribute to lata mangeshkar and bappi lahiri.. neither did the oscars.. you all americans can honestly go ahead and f yourselves cause you don’t deserve good music.. the whole world only listens to english songs so true,” a fan of both the legends wrote on Twitter.
“The amazing world-record setting #LataMangeshkar (who passed away from Covid) sang more songs for more movies than shown in all Oscars combined. Yet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on…,” wrote another user.
Lata Mangeshkar, also known as the ‘Nightingale of India’, passed away on January 6 due to multiple organ failure. She was 92. ‘Disco King’ Bappi Lahiri passed away at the age of 69 on February 15 due to obstructive sleep apnea in Mumbai.
