Los Angeles: Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish went home with her first Oscar at the age of 20. Her brother Finneas O’Connell and she bagged the Best Original Song honour for the film No Time To Die. However, on social media, she became the fodder for some hilarious memes, thanks to her Oscar 2022 dress.
Billie Eilish walked the red carpet for the Academy Awards 2022. She donned a tiered, ruffled, off-the-shoulder gown with a dramatic train by designer Alessandro Michele. While some compared her dress to loofa, others compared her ruffled black dress to cupcakes molds.
“y’all- don’t come for me… billies loofa era <3 (billie eilish oscars 2022),” wrote one of the users.
After winning the Oscar, Billie said, “This is so-I could scream. Thank you to our 007 family, (producer) Barbara Broccoli, MGM, (director) Cary Fukunaga, Daniel Craig, Hans Zimmer…for taking our song and making it worthy of James Bond.”
Her brother Finneas added, “Lastly, we want to thank our parents who have always been our biggest inspirations and heroes, and we love you as our parents and we love you as real people too. Thank you so much to the academy, we promise not to lose these.”
Meanwhile, the Oscar 2022 turned dramatic when Hollywood star Will Smith hit Chris Rock in the face on stage after the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith on Sunday. But then, when he went onto the stage for the second time, this time to receive the Best Actor for King Richard, he was calmer.
He apologized to the Academy and the other nominees for slapping Chris Rock. After accepting the award tearfully for his role as Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in the film King Richard, Will Smith said, “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family.”
The incident started when Chris referred to Pinkett Smith’s shaved hairdo and said: “Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2.”
