IPL 2022: I’m not done yet: Karthik after match-winning knock against RR

Mumbai: Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik said he made a conscious effort in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s chase in their IPL 2022 match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday night, telling himself: “I am not done yet.”

Karthik has replicated his match winning knock against Bangladesh many times in the Indian Premier League over the last few years.

After he was released by Kolkata Knight Riders, Karthik was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022.

On Tuesday, Karthik rescued his franchise in the match that was heading Rajasthan Royals’ way, slamming an unbeaten 44 off just 23 balls.

Speaking in the post match session, Karthik said, “I have made a conscious effort this year to do justice to myself because I felt I could have done a little better last year. So the way of training was a little different (this year).”

“I was making a conscious effort to tell myself that I am not done yet. I have a goal and I want to achieve something. I tried my best in terms of preparation,” he added.

Skipper Faf du Plessis likened Dinesh Karthik to MS Dhoni. On the RCB website, he said: “MS Dhoni is the best finisher in the world but what I have seen from Dinesh Karthik, he is always been a dangerous player, he has a lot of clarity, stays calm and he has the control and confidence to finish the game which is remarkable. DK is as close as it gets to MS Dhoni when it comes to being ice-cool.”

Harsha Bhogle also took to Twitter, praising Karthik for his match-winning show against the Royals. In a tweet immediately after RCB’s win, he said: “So so much to admire about Dinesh Karthik. This has been sensation(al). Never say never with DK.”

Rajasthan scored 169/3 in 20 overs, thanks to Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 70 off 40 balls. However, Karthik, along with Shahbaz Ahmed who scored 45 off 26 balls, powered Bangalore to a superb win.
