New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki has appointed Hisashi Takeuchi as managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) with effect from April 1, 2022 until March 31, 2025. Outgoing MD Kenichi Ayukawa, who has held the position since 2013, will be the full-time director designated as executive vice-chairman of Maruti Suzuki for the next six months to help with the transition.
Takeuchi, a graduate in Economics from Japan’s Yokohama National University, joined Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) in 1986 and began his professional career in the Overseas Marketing Department, Europe Group. In 1996, he joined the Overseas Marketing Department, Oceania Group and was promoted in 1997 as director (marketing and sales) of Suzuki Australia PTY.
Thereafter, he has help designations such as deputy managing director / managing director, Magyar Suzuki Corporation; department general manager – Global Automobile Planning Department and India Automobile Department; divisional general manager – Global Business Administration & Planning Division, etc.
Before joining Maruti Suzuki India as joint managing director (commercial) in April 2021, Takeuchi was working as managing officer, executive general manager – Asia Automobile Marketing /India Automobile Department at SMC.
Meanwhile, new executive vice-chairman Ayukawa is a Law graduate from Osaka University, Japan, who joined the Human Resource Division of SMC in 1980. He has worked at several key positions in SMC and in the group’s overseas operations including general manager, Overseas Marketing, Administration Department and as managing director of Pak Suzuki Motor. In 2008, he was appointed managing executive officer in Global Marketing at SMC and has been the managing director of Maruti Suzuki India since April 1, 2013.
