Meghalaya is gearing up for the National Games, 2022. Chief minister Conrad K Sangma, during his meeting with minister of state (independent charge) for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju in Delhi, informed the Union minister about the state’s preparedness for the Games, to be held in the state in 2022.
The chief minister was accompanied by health minister AL Hek and informed Rijiju that all plans for the hosting of the National Games in Meghalaya — on the building infrastructure and logistics of the mega-event — had been carefully chalked out in precise details.
Seeking special central financial assistance for organizing the games, the CM gave a detailed presentation on the infrastructure requirements, while Rijiju assured all support to the state government.
Following the meeting with Rijiju, the CM held a detailed discussion with the secretary, ministry of sports, and the director-general, Sports Authority of India.
Terming the meeting ‘fruitful’, Sangma said, “The ministry of sports has assured all support to ensure successful hosting of the Games in Meghalaya. We’re very positive that all the necessary logistics and requirements for the Games will be completed within the stipulated time.”
100 years of Shillong Golf Course
The CM also said that constant engagement with the ministry of sports had yielded results because the Centre had recognized the importance of building the necessary sports infrastructure that would facilitate promotion of sports in Meghalaya, apart from the hosting of the Games.
Health minister Hek also submitted a memorandum to Rijiju, requesting that special consideration be given to developing the famed Shillong Golf Course that will turn 100 years in 2024.
