A mother charged with throwing her three-year-old daughter into a bear enclosure at Uzbekistan’s Tashkent Zoo faces a potential 15 years in prison for attempted murder. The incident came to light when a shocking video of the woman tossing the child into the bear pit went viral worldwide on February 2, following a report by Russia’s East2West news agency.
The disturbing footage, seemingly shot by a visitor to the zoo, shows the child being dropped into a trench about 16 feet below the enclosure’s
protective fencing, after which a large brown bear named Zuzu ambles up to sniff the child.
Zookeepers managed to draw the animal into a restricted part of the enclosure before they ran to rescue the little girl, who has reportedly suffered a concussion and cuts to the head and other parts of her body from the fall, reports say.
