Mahendra Singh Dhoni begins a new innings. This time, as a warrior in a sci-fi graphic novel, and as always, ‘Captain Cool’ has managed to impress fans with his first shot (sorry, look). From leading the Indian cricket team to organic farming, we have seen Dhoni in many avatars. But now, the former Indian skipper is wowing audiences as a sci-fi warrior in the graphic novel Atharva: The Origin. A motion poster has also been released by Virzu Studios, in association with MIDAS Deals Pvt Ltd.
The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman treated fans to the first look of his character on social media through a video, in which we can see the Ranchi-born cricketer fighting demons in his animated avatar. “Happy to launch the first look of the new-age graphic novel Atharva,” Dhoni captioned the video.
Written by Ramesh Thamilmani, headed by MVM Vel Mohan and produced by Vincent Adaikalaraj and Ashok Manor, Atharva: The Origin features over 150 lifelike illustrations which create the parallel universe of Atharva.
Dhoni fans haven’t been able to keep calm ever since the first look was revealed. Some have compared him with Bahubali, others with Lord Mahadev. Though many were hitherto confused about whether Atharva is a film, web series or book, Dhoni’s video ought to clarify matters. The makers also took to Twitter to say that the official launch date will be announced soon. The makers have also promised that Atharva will commence a “new chapter in graphic novels” with its vivid illustrations.
For author Thamilmani, working with the veteran Indian cricketer was exhilarating. “I am excited and happy to have MS Dhoni portraying Atharva, he truly embodies the character. Each of the characters and artwork in the novel including that of MS Dhoni has been developed post extensive research and every nuance of the world has been created with great attention to detail,” he said.
‘Captain Cool’ in turn praised Thamilmani for his attempt to launch India’s first mythological superhero. “I am thrilled to be associated with this project and it is indeed an exciting venture. Atharva – The Origin is a captivating graphic novel with an engaging story and immersive artworks. Author Ramesh Thamilmani’s attempt to launch India’s first mythological superhero with a contemporary twist will leave every reader wanting more,” he said.
