Nothing is uglier than war: Bollywood stands with Ukraine

Mumbai: The world watched in horror when Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine. And now, with Ukraine losing control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and Russian forces closing in on the national capital Kyiv, people across the globe want ‘Putin to stop war’. Bollywood stands with Ukraine too. Several Bollywood celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Tillotama Shome, Sonu Sood and Adil Hussain have expressed their views about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Sharing a video, Priyanka Chopra wrote that “the situation unfolding in Ukraine is terrifying.” The Sky is Pink actress spoke about the innocent lives living in the war zone.

“Innocent people living in fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones, while trying to navigate the uncertainty of the immediate future. It’s difficult to comprehend how in the modern world this could escalate to such a catastrophic point, but this is a consequential moment that will reverberate around the world. Sonu Sood, who emerged as a ‘messiah’ for the migrant workers and Indians stranded abroad in the time of pandemic, has urged Indian Embassy to find a route for the evacuation of Indians living in Ukraine.

A Death in a Gunj actress Tillotama Shome wrote “nothing can be uglier than war.” “I worry incessantly for my mother who is battling cancer in the midst of covid. But when I think of the families and cancer patients in the middle of war, my brain just ceases to comprehend. Nothing absolutely nothing is uglier than war. Mothers don’t give life for war,” she tweeted.

Legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar spoke how the “western power is indifferent”. “If the Russian / Ukrainian conflict evokes a sense of fairness n justice, a humane desire to protect the weaker in them, Why all of the western powers are totally indifferent towards Saudi carpet bombings and atrocities on a small country like Yemen,” he tweeted.

His son, actor-director Farhan Akhtar, who recently tied the knot with Shibani Dandekar, prayed for peace. “Thoughts with Ukraine..may better sense prevail and peace be restored as soon as possible.”
