After a long wait, director Srijit Mukherji’s new film Kakababur Protyaborton has finally been released today across India. Shot extensively in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, the adventure film brings together the popular duo of Prosenjit Chatterjee and Aryann Bhowmick as Kakababu and Santu after ‘Mishawr Rahasya’ and ‘Yeti Obhijaan’. Given the dedicated fan following that Kakababu enjoys among Bengali audiences, the film’s producers SVF have also decided to launch official merchandise for the film in collaboration with Bongmade, to be available from the latter’s website.
The merchandise – including T-shirts, diaries, and coasters with the ‘Kakababur Protyaborton’ theme – was recently launched at a star-studded event in the presence of Prosenjit, Aryann, music director Indraadip Dasgupta, and composer-vocalist Rupam Islam.
Prosenjit has often spoken about his love of playing the adventurous Kakababu on the big screen. “This wonderful journey of three Kakababu films wouldn’t have been possible without Srijit,” he said at the event. The Prosenjit-Srijit duo first teamed up for the 2010 film and Srijit’s directorial debut ‘Autograph’, which was a runaway hit.
Prosenjit has also expressed his gratitude to the hugely popular Bengali author late Sunil Gangopadhyay, author of the Kakababu series. ‘Kakababur Protyaborton’ is based on Gangopadhyay’s original book ‘Jongoler Modhye Ek Hotel’.
“All credit to Sunilda for writing such a spectacular character. Kakababu is nothing less than a superhero because of the way he handles all the dangerous and life-threatening situations which he stumbles upon while solving a mystery,” said Prosenjit. The Bengali superstar also praised the initiative of the makers to launch merchandise for the film.
Anindya Sain, chief executive officer and partner of Bongmade, said they always wanted to do merchandise for Bengali films, and no better place to begin than the popular Kakababu franchise.
Meanwhile, megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently congratulated Prosenjit for ‘Kakababur Protyaborton’ on Twitter. Along with a message, he also shared the trailer of the movie.
