Mumbai: He came, saw and conquered. We are talking about director SS Rajamouli. Five years after he delivered the box-office shattering Baahubali 2 with Prabhas, Rajamouli has come up with his epic period film RRR starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR. And just like the trade pundits expected, RRR has taken the box office by a storm. Rajamouli’s RRR has crossed Baahubali 2‘s opening day box office collection of Rs 223 crore worldwide.
In 2017, Baahubali 2 had netted Rs 217 crore at the box office worldwide on day 1. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the shocking numbers. “RRR’ SMASHES ALL RECORDS ON DAY 1… OVERTAKES ‘BAAHUBALI 2’… ‘RRR’ IS NOW NO. 1 OPENER OF INDIAN CINEMA… WORLDWIDE Day 1 biz [Gross BOC]: ₹ 223 cr SS RAJAMOULI IS COMPETING WITH HIMSELF,” he tweeted.
The trade analyst also broke down the collection of each state. “#RRR Day 1 biz… Gross BOC… #AP: ₹ 75 cr, #Nizam: ₹ 27.5 cr, #Karnataka: ₹ 14.5 cr, #TamilNadu: ₹ 10 cr, #Kerala: ₹ 4 cr, #NorthIndia: ₹ 25 cr, #India total: ₹ 156 cr, #USA: ₹ 42 cr, Non-US #Overseas: 25 cr WORLDWIDE TOTAL: ₹ 223 cr,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Hindi version of RRR has netted Rs 20 crore on the opening day. It has taken the second-best opening during the Covid-19 pandemic after Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi (Rs 26.11 crore). However, the collection of the Hindi version of RRR is far less than that of Hindi version of Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), which netted Rs 41 crore on day 1.
Pushpa actor Allu Arjun is all praise for RRR. Taking to Twitter, he wrote individually about each actor, music director and cinematography.
“Hearty Congratulations to the Entire team of #RRR . What a spectacular movie. My respect to our pride @ssrajamouli garu for the vision.
