Mumbai: In her career, Mithali Raj has broken several records but how many are we aware of. Recently, Mithali became the first woman, and only third cricketer, to take part in six cricket World Cups. In fact, she led the Women in Blue to two World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017 respectively. When the makers of the much-anticipated cricket biopic Shabaash Mithu on Indian cricketer Mithali Raj released the official teaser on Monday, it certainly found a lot of cheer. The teaser has its message clear: Cricket is not only a gentleman’s game, it also belongs to the women.

The teaser opens with the announcer saying, “The only Indian cricket to score 7 consecutive 50s in ODIs” and also introduces her the captain in “four World Cups.” Then, we see her (Taapsee Pannu) getting ready to bat amid loud cheer. Taapsee looks convincing as Mithali, but let us wait for the trailer to get a better idea.
Taapsee shared the teaser on her Twitter handle. Even Mithali took to social media to share the teaser of Shabaash Mithu.
Produced by Viacom18 Studios, the film is directed by Srijit Mukherji. This is Srijit’s second Hindi directorial after Begum Jaan, starring Vidya Balan. The film was a Hindi remake of his Bengali film Rajkahini and didn’t work at the box office. However, Srijit is a cricket fanatic and some of the scenes of Shabaash Mithu has reportedly been shot at the iconic Lord’s Ground in London.

Earlier Rahul Dholakia was supposed to direct the film. But due to change of schedule, Srijit stepped in. Actor Vijay Raaz will also be seen playing a key role in the film.
