Kolkata: The love anthem, Srivalli from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise is a rage these days. From cricketers Dwayne Bravo, David Warner, Virat Kohli, to even Dutch singer Emma Heesters, the song has become a sensation. And now, Srivalli gets a Bengali twist with Usha Uthup joining the trend. Yes, Usha Uthup recreates Srivalli in Bengali. Excited?
On Friday, Usha Uthup took to social media to announce that she has sung a Bengali version of Srivalli. “#Srivalli Bengali Version releasing this 28th February. Stay tuned!,” wrote the veteran singer.
In the teaser, we hear Uthup singing, “Tumi tomar tulono Srivalli,” while doing the famous hook step. On February 28, Uthup will release the song with the visuals. Rajiv Dutta has written the Bengali lyrics and the song has been recreated by Tubai Ray.
Uthup fans are eager to hear the Bengali version of the viral Pushpa song. “It’s a fantastic news mam , I can’t wait to watch,” wrote one user. Another fan posted, “Can’t wait superb mam..”
When Bappi Lahiri passed away on February 15, 2022, Uthup was inconsolable and said she owed every song to him. “From Rambha, Koi Yaha, Hari Om Hari to Uri Baba… There’s no show that runs without him. Be it a para or a maidaan, without a Bappi Lahiri song, I will have no show,” said the singer.
Uthup said, the ‘Disco King’ and she were an ‘unbreakable jodi’. In 1980, Uthup recorded ‘Hari Om Hari’ for Pyaara Dushman, her first with the veteran music director-singer. Her distinct voice was mellifluously used later by Lahiri in songs like Rambha, Tu Mujhe Jaan Se Bhi Pyara Hai, Koi Yahan Aha Nache Nache, Naaka Bandi and Uri Uri Baba.
She recalled how Lahiri wanted to record a song with her. “He asked him if I was going out anywhere. Then, he said he has composed a few numbers and we will record them soon. He always used to say we are an unbreakable jodi. I have never felt like this. Is this an age to go?,” said Uthup.
When ‘Ravindra Jadeja’ became ‘Ravindra Pushpa’
In the opening T20I match against Sri Lanka in Lucknow, Ravindra Jadeja imitated Allu Arjun’s Srivalli move after taking wicket of Dinesh Chandimal in the 10th over. The video of the Indian cricketer doing the Pushpa move has gone viral. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Murali Kartik, who was in the commentary box at that time even termed him as “Ravindra Pushpa.”
