Since 2014, under the robust leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Swachh Bharat Mission, a nation-wide campaign in India aiming to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India’s cities, towns, urban and rural areas, has got a tremendous response.

It is is one of the important flagship programmes to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi‘s dream of clean and hygienic India. Indian Army with its rich ethos and tradition has always been at the forefront of such a noble initiative.

This year a ‘Swachhta hi Sewa’ Abhiyan was undertaken by the Army from 16th September to 2nd October. The whole initiative included campaigns on awareness, lectures in schools and colleges, cleanliness of surroundings, garbage disposal, plantations initiatives, polythene free stations etc. All units and formations in the entire Eastern Command Theatre undertook various activities to mark this programme.

On 2nd Oct Army personnel in various military stations in the Command took a pledge to work towards Clean India.


Such initiatives truly reaffirm the Indian Army’s commitment to various important national campaigns.
