IGNOU, NCW Launch 3 Skill Courses: What You Must Know

In a joint initiative to strengthen gender equality, workplace safety, and capacity building across India, the Indira Gandhi National Open University and the National Commission for Women have launched three specialized micro-credential courses. Formally introduced following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 14, 2026, the partnership combines open learning infrastructure with policy expertise to make structured gender training accessible nationwide. Designed to deliver practical, actionable knowledge rather than traditional theoretical modules, these flexible short-term programs cater to university students, corporate employees, government personnel, and community leaders.

The Three Micro-Credential Offerings

The joint venture introduces three distinct modules tailored to meet immediate professional and social requirements in modern workplaces.

1. Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH)

This module addresses workplace safety, employees’ legal rights, and institutional compliance under the POSH framework. It provides learners with detailed insights into redressing workplace harassment, understanding employer obligations, and establishing respectful, legally compliant organizational environments.

2. Women’s Leadership, Capacity Building & Workplace Behaviour

Focusing on career advancement, this course builds core decision-making skills, professional communication, and managerial capabilities. It aims to increase the representation of female leadership across corporate, public, and social sectors.

3. Gender Sensitisation: Society and Culture

Designed to challenge pervasive gender stereotypes, this module examines social constructs, cultural biases, and identity dynamics. It provides learners with tools to foster inclusivity in both everyday social settings and formal work environments.

Implementation Model and Division of Responsibilities

The partnership establishes a clear division of operational responsibilities between the two institutions. IGNOU manages the academic framework, course design, digital hosting on the IGNOU Samarth admission portal, student assessments, and formal certification. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women contributes specialized subject-matter expertise, policy guidance, and national outreach strategies.

Why Short-Term Skill Courses Matter for Modern Workplaces

Short-term micro-credentials have emerged as a vital tool for career development and skill enhancement. As institutions across India emphasize workplace safety and constitutional awareness, structured learning around gender equality and education has become essential for long-term organizational health. By making these courses accessible via online and distance modes, the initiative enables learners to gain verified credentials without interrupting their ongoing careers or academic schedules.

As more working women step into decision-making roles, practical programs like these help translate statutory mandates into everyday office culture. Future phases of the IGNOU-NCW partnership are set to cover additional critical subjects, including cyber safety, legal literacy, mental health, and domestic violence prevention.
